Hey guys,
Ok just curious, How do we all feel about anchoring ? Do you, or have you done it? What kind of anchor? ever use a sea anchor? How well did it work ?

Now that I have the fc 4 I have room for one but that's alot more weight to add and its already pretty bulky. I was thinking a coffe can of cement would probally work good

Thought about it before...there have been many times that I could have benefited from using one. Its a real pain to kick to a spot and have the wind and current drag you another way. I might make one in the near future for a few spots. Ive alao thought about tying some rope to a certain jetty i frequent a lot...that way i could just grab the rope and tie it to the tube...of course this can get dangerous around rocks and it all depends on the stage of the tide/current.

I use a rope to tie up to, less weight and ez to store.

Ok here is my .02 on anchoring and float tubes.

If you fished some of the spots and the way I fish them you will understand why I use an anchor of some type from time to time. Harbor fishing.

I like to fish with the current. Or I will fish across the current. I don't like to fish against the current. Some places I fish the current can move very rapidlhy and it becomes difficult to stay on target and focus on the bite.

I use a rope 60' long with a large clamp on one end and 2' of heavy chain on the other. The clap end is to clamp onto a fixture like a bush, dock mooring etc . This is known as a "bush anchor." The chain end stays with me on the tube in a pocket. This allows me to face the current and fish with out rolling my bait too fast or drift off target.

The chain option is more conventional.

The chain end is dropped to the sea floor and will either hold me in one spot or slow my drift down considerably
Best of all with NO snags or jams on the sea floor..

I don't always take this set up. Just depends on where I'm fishing and the tide and current patterns there. I personally think fighting a current throws off your game and causes you to fish too fast. Plus it's just a pain.

The set up is rather light, not bulky and easily managed on a tube. I can pick up and drop very easily.

I do not recommend the chain method for lakes as it can damage the lake bottom and the life that depends on it.
The sea floor in a harbor is far less fragile.

That's how I float boys.

Clarification:!?
"fishing WITH the current,..." kicking against the current, ( back to the flow) facing down current, and fishing across and/or down? and reset down current of your target area to repeat...?

PS. like the chain gag

I anchor and throw to the current. So the current is actually bringing my bait back to me. Like spittin in the wind. Across the current is literally across the flow of current. In many places this puts the slips perpendicular to the flow of tide. Casting into the slip or paddling into the slip and casting out from the slip allows you to fish across the current. Obviously this is not always true but most of the harbors have this feature in some area. The rest of the time the above applies.

I do not like to be in the current and kick against it and cast the direction of flow.
This brings the bait against the current and therefore is the least natural presentation.

Ferstanzy now? lol

Hmmmm,... Very interesting, and oddly counter to my techniques, You and I are going to have to fish together. I am curious to see how that works.

I do this when fishing the harbor and 1 day in NPH it was a life saver. Strong wind and current on the way back to the launch point made it impossible to fish so I simply tie off fish for 5 min at a spot and keep moving quit easy and when I trout fish that same rope works to hold my basket so it's a win win.

I here you, it happened to me my first time out in HBH. The current and winds were super strong the rope help with taking breaks.

I plan to anchor from time to time.
Anybody ever try one of those 4 arm folding anchors?
This one is supposedly for a kayak or canoe
Reviews are positive, compact and only 3lbs

I have that grappling anchor that i got from Bass Pro. Good on light wind. Not good on moderate under current. I got an 8lbs fluke type. For tube, 3lbs fluke. Trust me. You'll be safer with the fluke. I have both mounted on my toon. Used fluke more often than grappling.
