Fly tyers – Mark Flo, Cindi Hubbard & Naomi Okamoto

Fly Fishing the San Diego Bay - After catching his first trout on a fly at age 13, it was clear that the fish wasn’t the only one who’d been hooked! Kim spent the rest of his teenage summers studying Catskill fly-fishing under the tutelage of the likes of Ernest Schweibert, Joe Brooks, Harry Darbee, and others who generously shared their knowledge and love of the sport with him. When not engaged fishing the up-state trout streams, Kim found the bluefish and striped bass in New York saltwater more than willing to test a battered Cortland fiberglass 8-weight, helping pioneer saltwater fly-fishing on Long Island, still in it’s infancy.

College brought him to the Rocky Mountains and waters beyond to the west by 1972, and Air Force assignments later on, to fishing destinations even further away. Armed with a wealth of experience and knowledge from fly-fishing around the world, Kim now resides in San Clemente, California, where he continues to learn about the finer points of our sport, while sharing his enthusiasm and that “know-how” with others.

Fly Fishing the Local Freshwaters - Mark grew up in Michigan, and learned to fish on the Great Lakes, and rivers and streams in the area with his grandfather. His father taught him to fish the small streams around Greenfield, Massachusetts. He was introduced to fly fishing by his High Sierra hiking pal Tim Poole in the Donner Pass area. After several fits and starts, he gave up the spoons (throwing heavy metal) in 1999. He has been fly fishing the local mountains and the Sierra Nevada range for the past 11 years.

Journey Down the Green River and Flaming Gorge Area with Carl “Boomer” Stout
at Bob Marriott's Flyfishing Store

Saturday, February 5th, 2011
10:00am to 3:00pm

Presentations will be held at 11:30am & 2:00pm
(Reservations recommended to guarantee your seat 714-525-1827)

Boomer’s PowerPoint presentation will take you on a journey of the Green River and the surrounding Flaming Gorge area. Detailed handouts will be provided on how to get there, facilities, and gear needed for a great fishing experience. We will start at the top of the “A” section, right below the dam, and travel on downriver seeing remaining “B” and “C” sections. At the end of the program, we will go into detail on the aquatic and terrestrial hatches, when they occur, and what flies to best take advantage of this. Some of these patterns are Boomer and Dennis Breer’s creations, which Boomer will tie in his pre-program tying demonstration.

Carl "Boomer" Stout has been in the Flyfishing industry for over 25 years. Boomer started guiding in Colorado in 1984. He went from there to guiding in Alaska at Katmai Lodge for four years. That’s when he started writing articles with the late Bill Logan, outdoor sportswriter for the Rocky Mountain News. After becoming a member of the G. Loomis Rod Co. he made many appearances in the International Sportsman’s Expo Shows as a casting instructor/demonstrator, also working in the Master Tying Theater. This has led to appearances in shows on TV, such as the Outdoorsman, and numerous magazine articles. Boomer is well known in the industry as a fly designer, even going overseas to Thailand to train fly tiers. Boomer has designed many popular & successful flies for Alaska and the Green River and he loves instructing classes in the art of tying the Classic Full Dress Feather Wing Atlantic Salmon Flies. Boomer started working for Denny Breer (Trout Creek Flies) on the Green in 1990. Since then he became Head Guide and has loved being on the Green River ever since. Boomers other passion is music. Has been a bass guitar and harmonica player most of his life!
