Well off to my favourite fishing hole tomorrow, making it a long weekend with a mate across the road. Will post some pics when I get back, have been looking forward to this trip as it will be the Cumberlands first taste of water since I got it. Let's hope I don't sink.... reports coming out of this area have been non existent for the last month or so.
Trout season opens in the rivers in Victoria on Saturday 1/9 so there will be a few hungry mouths around, stocked Lakes in Victoria have no closed season.
My last trip to Lake Bolac wasn't overly successful, only five fish between two of us in three days, it was coming into breeding season at the time (early june) let's hope this time is better.
I've upgraded my reels to baitfeeders and have a new nine foot rod to test, apart from the seven footers I usually stick with.
I have a couple of 4ft 6inch rods I picked up specially for the Cumberland so i am hanging out to try them also.
This time through I have a seine net to get some of the local bait and am taking a few worms as well(night crawlers I think you call them)

Well what a washout these few days away have been. My mate and I travelled east seven hours to get to the Lake districts in Western Victoria all the time driving into grey skies, high wind and sheet rain. We arrived at about lunch time to be greeted with torrential rain and high winds, we had planned on camping in the swags but we couldn't get out of the car to set up camp.
A quick trip to the site office saw us into a nice warm cabin with ensuite shower, toilet and all the trimmings.
After setting up house it was off to try a bit of fishing to source out the best spots.
The Lake was discolored from all the fresh water, white caps belting on shore to my favourite spot. We perservered there in the driving rain casting into head on winds frozen to the core for about an hour. Until finally we had had enough....no bites, nothing.
We took off in search of a more calmer fishing spot around the Lake.
A momentary break in the weather and I snapped a few pics of the boat ramp area, the pictures are a bit deceptive as sitting in the lee of the hill it looks quite serene but out on the point of land it was blowing a gale, if you got off your seat it was in the drink.

The next day up and early and we travelled to the other side of the Lake, morning had seen rain still pelting down at 90 degrees to the ground and high winds, we had found a cosy? hidy hole partially protected from the wind and although it was calm on the water high wind gusts still shot over the water, and still no fish!
I had been hanging out to put the Cumberland through its first head wetting but the way the wind was and my inexperience i had visions of taking off into the wild blue yonder.
In the end I tied about 200 feet of rope to the Cumberland and attached the other end to a sixty foot gumtree. Boy, I wasn't sorry. If I hadn't i would have ended up on the other side of the Lake in an hour or so.
Still no fish and we were getting pretty Pi...d with the weather.
No fish to show so heres a pic of my fins.

The Lake is pretty shallow, only about 2 metres or 7 feet max in places but it still holds a lot of large trout. The sounder showed numerous fish around me and we had seen a few rising, so we knew they were around, as the sounder shows.

A pic from the FT to where my mate was sitting.

We used live baits under floats, powerbait, white bait and spinners all to no avail, they just weren't biting.
Ending up with only one fish for the few days we were there, we came home early, wet, wind burnt and tired, but had a great time anyway.
It was a good chance for me to get the FT sorted and now I can make a few adjustments to it.
