I was in NPH after the last big rain we had about 3 weeks ago. Sorry this report is so old, but here is goes. I was involved in a freindly float tube tournament in Newport Oct. 24th. Start time was 6am fish till 11:30 am, great turn out anout 22 fisherman all over the harbor. As for my fishing day I was betting on rain but the sky cleared as we got in the water and warmed up the air very well.
The water was pretty cold for the time we where there. I throw 3" hammers (spottie specials, redrum, and bloody mackral) with alot of taps but no takes. It was getting very frustrating for awhile my partner managed 2 dink spotties, but we needed a limit of 5 13" + spotties to be able to weight in.
Long story short it was a tough day with no fish in our stringer. The highlight of my day was when out of frustration I stated DS'ing a zipper worm (fry) watermelon color and got hit by what felt like a frait train. This thing started piling line as soon as it hit and after setting the hook it snaped me off like nothing.
Not sure what it was but it was big and it got away so it is a store to tell. Post up you reports so we can here what is going on in you neck of the woods.
