I fish light but not ultra light, I am sure you can do it, just be ready to lose a few. Should be well worth the fight to try it out, good luck let us know how you do.

I fish like this all the time, but the dink bass usually hit before I can hook into a solid spottie. I have hooked some good ones before on 4lb, but their teeth are so sharp that I often get busted off.

Last couple of times I went out being a noobie in bay fishing I was fishing 6lb line accidentally. Luckily I didn't loose any of my fish. 
The halibut I have on my avatar was caught on 6lb line had to play with the drag a bit but was able to land him.
Next time out I'm rigging up with 10 or 15lb line.

Nice. I've caught a legal before on 8lb and that was a blast. Can't imagine how fun it would be with 6lb.
I throw 6lb most of the time when I'm in the bays. It's a multi-purpose line and it gets the job done well.

I was on a albacore exploratory trip one time, and this kid that was a dead head on a local boat in LB, was fishing 8lb test on a 6'6" trout rod. Wouldnt you know, he landed a nice 15lb albacore. Very impressive.

I fish 6 lbs when Im using 3inc. big Hammer. and that's only when im going for quantity rather than quality.

I fish 8 lbs in the bay. Hmm... I'd like to switch to 6lb but the freaking barnicles on the pylons cuts through light line easily
