Lake Perris 9.11
Area fished: The Dam
Sunny and calm
Air Temp: 75 to 88
Water Temp 78 to 80
Water Clarity 8 feet
Depth Shoreline to 20 feet deep
Time 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM
I got a Friday morning session in for a break from this heatwave. Launched out of Sail Cove and puttered to the dam. I was watching my fishfinder and thought I had kicked into some weeds I don't remember, then I realized it was a pretty big school of baitfish. Little green about 3 to 4 1/2 inches long and every where. I've had people tell me they are delta smelt, but I don' know, definitely not shad or shiners. Nothing was working for me and I could see bass gorging on these things all around me 20 to 50 yards away bass popping in all directions. There were two other tubers and no one was landing anything. One guy told me he caught a few on Castmasters early, but they were no longer producing. I tossed a lot stuff at the boiling bass when I saw them and finally landed one on a Johnson Silver Minnow.
If anyone knows more about these bait fish I'd like to hear it.
