Fishing Report 1-21-23 LAB.

Went to Alamitos Bay early this morning.   Took the Cumberland out today.  My trucks in the shop so took the wife’s car and deflated tube and travelled light.  
In the water at 5:40 am.  Super cold .  My feet are still numb.  Regular lap.  Around the yacht club across the channel by Ballast Point brewery and dive boats and back.  Short, early session . Didn’t see too many guys out so don’t know what’s up with the BayWars beedee was talking about.  I figured it would be crowded but maybe they were fishing somewhere else.
They should have been where I was , I had a good morning.  
Ended up with 8.  6 spotties and 2 sand bass. Couple of the spotties were nice samples.  One almost 16”.   Fished mostly with Ned rig with a Berkeley gulp mullet in the pumpkinseed color.  Also mixed in the HUB redcrab and chovy color.  Got one of the sand bass on the new HUB rainbow trout color.  Which seems weird to me but it worked .  Beedee got bit on it the other night so I tried it.

Out of the water by 9.

Nice work! That one Sandy in the text you sent me has incredible coloration! Very nice to see you hit on the Rainbow Trout HUB. You have inspired me to hit it tomorrow morning. Really glad to hear the Spottie event was a non-factor out there.

That’s just a shadow off my net behind me. Look at my thumb as well. Still a pretty fish and I love the way they fight. Even the small ones hit you like you owe them money.

Funny how the fish key in on certain colors in certain areas
Lido island in balboa always did well on christmas tree, sea wolf or sexy smelt

The hermosa surf  it was always nuclear chicken or lime green/orange

Last year at in LA harbor  it was all about green ayu or red crab

So far this year my hot color......

White

Normally my go-to base color is white, then after that: green.

It is interesting how different colors for different locations and I find that it can be seasonal as well . Alamitos in summer is all red crab. But winter I’m finding soft colors and slower presentation.

I would like to start with the sardine green, and then follow my instincts and how they dump the bait, then start to change colors or increase or decrease the size of my bait and hooks.
