Not sure if that matters that's a parks department website not the DFG, but again if your unsure or confused just call the DFG directly for clarification.

Hey Lght,
So that's what that thing is! Hey do you have any closer shots of those shrimp. How big are they?
I think you'll find crawdads easy to keep.. they are just mean and grumpy little critters! and they eat a lot and grow real fast! They fight constantly and eat each other! (Sounds like some neighbors I have.)
Back in the day I spent a lot of time learning the fine art of crawdad fishing. It is really fun but kind of a lot of work. (The secret is setting up the boat properly on the spot.) But it is still the best way to catch a trophy LMB if you don't want to swing big swim baits. February and March are good months to try it, (prespawn) or early fall. ( the crawdad uphill migration).

personal best crawdad fish - 13lbs, one of four over 10 we caught that day at Casitas. Aaah the glory days!...

Yeah Larry Dahlberg!!
This guy is a legendary BIG fish fisherman and lure maker. Check out his TV show. Some of the greatest footage of the worlds biggest fresh water species. Met him a few times at the Tackle show. He is a real character and great fisherman. Lot's of information about Big fish behavior and how to catch them. He also is great source of info for lure making.

I think i'm just gonna try and buy a few pounds from a store or tackle shop to get started since it's really not the season to catch them. I heard they are really easy to grow so hopefully I'll be able to get a few hundred going pretty easily. When I breed fish and shrimp I like to separate the small ones from the larger ones to avoid them from being eaten so I may do that with the crayfish.

The shrimp are really small and only get to about 1" in size, but are VERY sensitive to water conditions and one of the reasons they are so expensive.

Here are a few more larger pics.

I picked up the Larry Dahlberg frong and craysfish and never got a bite on either after throwing them at Lake San Antonio up north for 4 days. Then I bought some night crawlers and the best I did was a really big bluegill. I was however throwing them by walking the shore so that may have been the reason I didn't get any fish. I really like the frog as it looked real and the leg kick on that lure was just amazing.

Hey LGHT
sorry I kinda lost track of this thread. Actually this time of year is a good time to capture crawdads if you know where to look. They are usually holed up in mud banks where they spend a good portion of the winter. we used to walk along the muddy creeks and irrigation dishes near my house and look for the small holes in the mud bank near the water line. Take stick and pry a chunk of mud off the bank and they were usually balled up inside the mud.

check it out!
