I'm looking to go on a half-day, and maybe eventually longer, boat trip with my son. He recently saw some pics of a friend of mine, who's son caught some rockfish and a sheepshead. He's pretty excited to give it a try.

Just wondering if anyone could recommend an inexpensive rod and reel (spinning) combo that would be good for a boat. I have some store credit at Bass Pro Shop, and was considering something like one of the mid or bigger Penn Fierce reels??

Not sure what rod to pair it with. I'm thinking something around 6ft6in to 7ft, maybe MH or H ?? I'm expecting it to get dropped, soaked, kicked, thrashed, dunked, so the cheaper the better. My son is 8.

As always.... THANKS!!

ps.. oh, just remembered.. I already have an Okuma Coronado cd65a baitfeeder spinning reel. My son handled that reel pretty well with an 11ft surf rod pulling in a small batray. Could that reel work? hmmmm... scratch
