DPH 1/26 Late report

New to the board, late report.
Picked up a new tube (Caddis 2000) and wanted to play in the salt with it. Got out there at 7:30ish and had to launch from the baby beach. I wanted to launch closer to the barge, but taking a look at the moist rocks and not being able to launch from the boat launch decided otherwise. First cast out, hit a pancake off a baby bass fluke...it was going to be one of those days. Fished from 7:30-11:30. Covered the baby beach to the research boat. Scratched out four bites (two I assume were lizards) with only two fish to show: one rattler and one grassy on a 3" sexy smelt hammer.

About half an hour into the session, a whole mess of SUPs invaded the area. In their commotion, a few small pancakes shot up around them, clearing water. Didn't want to venture into the marina seeing how all the SUPs were all over the place. Maybe next time.

For now, Caddis 2000 isn't close to my ODC420...but it'll do. Happy I didn't go home with the skunk.  

Nice outing and welcome to the boards. This isn't the first time I hear about not being able to launch at the boat launch. Is that being enforced or do they only have signs up?

A guy was standing guard at the entrance. They also had a sign posted on top of the pay station. A bit on the high side actually, where I couldn't see it unless I ducked my head or stuck it out the window.

We sounds like a good first outing for you all and all, thanks for the report and welcome to the board kin.

You beat the skunk. That's always a plus. No matter what size the catch was. Good work.

Ive always launched from the ramp. I just do it and I've never been bothered at all

A good place where you can launch is by the boat yard next to doheny. Its meter parking but they don't check it ( Ive never gotten a ticket there). And theres these nice rocks you can hold your tube and launch. Its on the right hand side and its a nice pathway for launching, and its right next to the bait barge. Give it a try it works for me

Is it 10 bucks for launching there?

Launching is free. You just have to pay for parking. Parking might be 10 though

I'd like to hit DPH after our friendly session on the 22nd anyone like to show me the ropes down there?? That's a place if like to fish. Not immediately right after maybe the following weekend.
