This time of year, when it’s cold in the mornings, I prefer to do afternoon/evening sessions if the wind permits. Of course, it gets cold as soon as the sun goes down, so you have to plan accordingly either way.
My favorite place for checking the wind is Windfinder.com – I use it to help me plan every trip out on the water. I especially like to check which direction the wind will be blowing at the end of my session and plan my launch spot so I won’t have to kick against the wind on my way back, when I’m tired.
I've also started trying a new trick and it's been working pretty good... if you get bit, but don't hook the fish, going back with the same bait very rarely gets another bite (unless it's a spot holding multiple fish), but if I switch rods, to one with a different color bait, I have a much better chance of getting that fish to bite again. I give them a minute to settle down and go back to their spot and then I try the new color. It's definitely been working better than just trying the same bait again.
I caught a dozen dinks, but only included those with underwater footage in this video.
Happy fishing!
