El cap was way too windy on Sunday.

Started out at 5 AM and threw spinners and poppers on the way to the dam. Good strikes and a few small bass. Made it to the dam and threw in some mackrel to soak and switched to the bluegill rig. Lots of hookups, just fun catch and release. Git slammed by a cat, but lost him  in some structure (Snapped me off). So around 7 AM this wind comes out of nowhere and blew me all the way across the lake! I just let it push as I trolled and got a few nice hits on a watermelon 8" but nothing over 3 lbs.
Needless to say with the wake and amount of wind it is easier to paddle in the bay than in this lake. Fun, but done!

Need a new spot in East County SD for tight lines.

Love that lowrance!! It is the elite 7hdi. Way too big according to my buds, but it is accurate as hell.
My wife "Bought it" for me for my upcoming 40th. I have it mounted on the fishtubefanatics u3 battery box and it is a deadly combination. Two runs of at least 8 solid hours each and have not got a low battery warning yet.

My biggest thing was wanting to see structure, but now I see it all!  

You can almost set your watch by the wind at El Cap. Cuyamaca is worse. Most any canyon lake will have wind problems. Sutherland is a little more moderate, but a little farther as well.

You mentioned the dam. Did you mean the log boom?
